knitting!

Yes, that's right, I've started to knit. Or really I've started to learn how to do it. And I have to say, I totaly fell in love with it! When I was last in Poland, my dad gave me this folder with the "Learning to Knit" series. Basically, every week, you get a magazine which includes a particular stitch to learn, some nice project to do, FAQ and some other things. There is also a blanket to be made, using different stitches and motifs. So every week there is one square to do and that way you can create your own knitted blanket. So I've started :) Oh, I forgot to mention that you also get a little 25g skein of acrylic yarn with each magazine. And so I've started my *Knitting Adventure*. And suddenly, all magazines, folders, yarns and needles were out and scattered around the flat. I had to get some order in this madness, and coincidentally when I went for my weekly charity shop run (poping around to all charity shops in Cambridge looking for little treasures within piles of junk) I found this little beauty:

 

Oh yes, this sweet wicker basket, ideal for my knitting stuff. Beautiful. And it sits so comfortably in my living room, as if it belongs there. Gorgeous.

You're probably wondering how did I get on with my first knitting attempts. Difficult at first, I've noticed that I tend to operate only with my right needle, so much I'm used to crochet, which I suppose isn't really a problem.  BTW, I rest the left needle on my tummy or a sofa's armrest. Quite comfortable really. Some of the stitches I made are quite loose and some very tight - it's difficult to keep the same tension all the time. But honestly I think my first square for the Blanket looks OK-ish. I might redo it later, but for now I'm concentrating on the second one.

I'm feeling quite creative recently, and a bad weather (oh, the British summer..) helps with it, by restricting my movements and banning me from enjoying the sun. And so I caught the brushes and some paints and created this little painting. I was inspired by my recent visit to Hampton Court Flower Show, which was truly amazing.

I'd love to do some outdoor painting, I know that's a great experience. I used to paint outside during my art course at uni. It was such a different thing and so liberating. Maybe I'll manage to do at least one outdoor painting session this summer..

New Start

Hello Everyone, Long time no write/read. But here I am and I'm back with a new kick. I'm motivated, I'm driven, I'm full of new ideas, willing to pursuit them, create new things and share them joyfully with you all.

And here's the lovely picture I took last week. It was taken on the last day of May Bumps in Cambridge, which are basically the rowing races held annually on the River Cam. And I absolutely adore this event and watch it every year. And I put this photo here to show you, that at the moment I'm as strong and motivated as those girls on the picture. :)

So from now on, I'll try to be more active: writing, creating, posting and sharing.

Which might be slightly problematic as I have not enough time to do it all, having a full time job, which takes up most of my time. Maybe I should limit my sleep? Or start crocheting while cycling to/from work? Or completely stop cooking/eating? That would save up some of my precious time; however, all these ideas are plain stupid. I don't function without enough hours of sleep. I admire my work-home cycling route so much I wouldn't be able to give it up (also wouldn't really be able to crochet while cycling). And I love having my food breaks. Still.. If you have any super-ideas regarding saving time, please share them with me! Would love to hear from you.

Also I thought I would update you on my arty-crafty movements. Because even though I wasn't posting anything on my blog, I couldn't just sit still, not doing anything. But I'll do it in parts, one at the time.

So here's the first one.

I finished putting together a big blanket made from square motifs which were made by my Grandma. Who accidentally (not really accidentally) is the reason why I crochet in the first place. That was she, who taught me how to crochet and we still share the passion for the crochet hooks and lovely yarns to these day. So we have agreed ages ago that she would make the motifs and I would stitch them together and make the blanket from them. She's done her part of the project probably a few years ago, whereas I could not find enough time to do my part. Till now. And it's done. And I really like it. So I'll post some pictures when I get home (I'm at work at the moment, with no access to my home laptop) later today.

Happiness

Hello Everyone, I hope you're all OK and enjoying the summer. I certainly am, although I'm a bit lazy as usual. As I don't have much to show you crochet-wise, I just wanted to share with you my new blog. A blog about all those things that make me happy. I've realised recently that I want to keep those happy moments that happen to me in my memory but I also want to share them with everyone who's interested. So here you are:

Ele-elementy

Zaczęłam robić elementy (motywy?) czy też tzw. granny squares. Nigdy nie sądziłam, że to napisze, bo zawsze wydawały mi się one trochę starodawne i niemodne. A jednak gdzieś po drodze pomiędzy tym 'zawsze' a 'teraz' gust mi się zmienił, bo nagle zaczęły mi się podobać. Dlaczego? Czytajcie poniżej..

Po pierwsze: Niedawno moja przyjaciółka, która (jak ja) szydełkuje, ale również tworzy inne niesamowite i cudowne wyroby z papieru, włóczki, drutu i z innych rzeczy, które jej się nawiną pod palce, zaczęła robić kocyk dla znajomego dziecka. Postanowiła robić go właśnie z elementów. Wymieniłyśmy troszkę emaili na ten temat (emaili, bo dzieli nas ponad tysiąc kilometrów). W jednym z nich napisała mi, że w ciągu jednego wieczora zrobiła tych elementów z szesnaście. Opisywała mi swój entuzjazm dotyczący wyboru wzoru i kolorów, a potem wielkich włóczkowych zakupów. Zrobiła mi tym wszystkim niezłego smaka na elementy.

Po drugie: Od pewnego czasu czytam i obserwuje wspaniałego bloga Lucy: Attic24. Zachwycają mnie rzeczy, które Lucy robi. Plus sposób, w jaki je ukazuje, zdjęcia i kolorystyka są naprawdę świetne. Chciałabym też tworzyć takie rzeczy.

Po trzecie: Od dawna czułam dość dużą niechęć do szydełka, zaczynałam cos robić i zaraz to prułam, wyszukiwałam odpowiedni wzór, żeby stwierdzić zaraz potem, ze żadna z moim włóczek się nie nadaje, czułam, że potrzebuje zrobić coś, czego wcześniej nie robiłam. Poza tym, od dawna korci mnie zakup wielu wspaniałych włóczek, ale ja postanowiłam, zawzięłam się wręcz, że nie kupię nic nowego, dopóki przynajmniej nie zacznę pozbywać się starych. A stare to głównie akryle, których niestety już nie lubię, bo się mechacą no i są jakieś nie takie jak trzeba.. Ale w elementach zupełnie nie widać tego mechacenia..

Z tego wszystkiego narodziła się zatem zupełnie nowa poduszka w moim domu. Nie jest zbyt duża, bo jestem z natury niecierpliwą osobą, jeśli chodzi o moje szydełkowe wyroby i musiałam zobaczyć efekty robienia elementów od razu, ale podoba mi się i jestem z niej zadowolona. Nie wiem za bardzo jeszcze jak chować nitki w czasie szydełkowania. Z częścią udało mi się tego dokonać, ale po skończeniu elementów miałam sporo roboty z chowaniem reszty.. Normalnie chowam nitki przerabiając słupki ponad luźnymi nitkami. Ale dziurki pomiędzy poszczególnymi trojkami słupków w elementach są nieco za duże na to i to mnie trochę zgubiło. Musze poszperać na forach i blogach w poszukiwaniu wskazówek.

Przyszły do mnie kilka dni temu dwie paczuszki z zamówionymi przeze mnie drobiazgami. Teraz tylko muszę znaleźć czas na robótki i wykorzystanie nowych rzeczy - mam już kilka planów, ale zobaczymy co z nich wyjdzie. Chciałam się jednak podzielić z wszystkimi kolorami, bo przy tak mroźnej i szarej zimie brak mi właśnie tego - kolorów, wiosny i słońca.

A couple of days ago I received two little packages with some little bits and bobs. Now I just have to find some time for the new crochet projects where I can use all my new items - I have some plans but we'll see how it goes. But I wanted to share with everyone some lovely colours - during such cold and grey winter that's what I'm really missing - colours, spring and the sun.

Zima trzyma i spowalnia mnie i demotywuje. Mimo to, powoli szydełkuję to i owo. Niedawno skończyłam łazienkowy abażur, trochę inaczej go sobie wyobrażałam na początku, a wyszedł mi inny, ale może być. Przynajmniej nie mamy już gołej żarówki, tylko coś trochę lepszego. Niestety, nie nacieszymy się nim za długo, gdyż dostaliśmy wypowiedzenie od właściciela mieszkania i musimy się stąd wyprowadzić do końca marca. Bywa. Choć szkoda nam się stąd wyprowadzać - mieszkanie jest duże i jasne i ciężko jest znaleźć coś podobnego. Zobaczymy co będzie.

The winter is still here and it slows me down and de-motivates me a lot. However, I still try to crochet some things here and there. Recently I've managed to finish my bathroom lamp-shade. When I first started making it, I had a bit different image in mind of what I want to achieve but the outcome isn't too bad, I'm relatively happy with it. Unfortunately, we won't have much time to get used to it as we've just got notice from the landlord - he wants to sell the flat and we have to be out by the end of March. It's a real shame as the flat is spacious and bright and it's quite difficult to find a similar place to rent. We'll see what happens.

Zamarzyłam też sobie ostatnio nową czapkę, znalazłam fajny wzór - Phannie. Niestety po zrobieniu prawie całej zdecydowałam, że wybitnie mi w niej nie do twarzy, więc sprułam, a z włóczki robię aktualnie nadgarstkowe otulacze.

Not so long time ago I wanted to make myself a new winter hat, and I found a great little pattern - Phannie. After I nearly finished it, I've decided it doesn't really go with my face and my style and I've unravelled the whole thing. I'm making a new pair of wrist warmers out of the yarn.

Jakiś czas temu (teraz to już pewnie z rok temu) pisałam o moim zamiarze nauczenia się malowania farbami olejnymi. Przeszłam podstawowy kurs, gdzie nauczyłam się wielu interesujących rzeczy o materiałach, technikach, kolorach i kompozycji, a teraz od czasu do czasu chwytam za pędzel i maluję sobie w moim domowych, prowizorycznym studio. Do tej pory udało mi się ukończyć dwa obrazy - jeden podarowałam mojej siostrze, która kocha słoneczniki. Mój obraz jest zatem oparty na tych Van Gogha. Drugi, to dość prosty widoczek.
Some time ago (probably about a year ago) I wrote here about my intent to learn how to paint with oil paints. I enrolled for the course where I have learnt all about materials, techniques, colours and composition and now from time to time I paint in my home, provisional studio. Till now I finished two paintings. One was for my sister - she loves sunflowers so the painting is inspired by those of Van Goghs. The other painting is just a simple landscape.
